How We Got Started
Our names are Bill and Lori McConnell and this is how our company got started.
We started mining rubies and sapphires in Franklin, North Carolina. Franklin is known for there ruby mines, gem shows and the largest Scottish Festival. Franklin is also one of the few places you can mine star rubies in the world. The cut used to show off the star in the ruby is called a cabochon. In tribute to Franklin being the city that gave us our start we combined our Scottish name and the cabochon cut to form McShawns Gem Works. Franklin has the second largest gem show in the US, which allows us the access to a variety of different stones for us to choose from.
We hand cut all of our own stones. We have traditional and not so traditional jewelry. We try to have something for every one. As a company we currently travel the east coast doing a variety of different events and can be found in consignment stores throughout the south. You can also find us on Facebook and Etsy.
